Subscriber only A Coast man, short on cash, cut more than 2m of copper piping from the ceiling of a Coast shopping centre carpark before making a run for it on Christmas Day. Ruben Peters told police he was short on money and went to a Eumundi shopping centre along Memorial Drive on December 25 last year to steal copper piping that he could later sell. Police prosecutor Brendan Newman said a shop owner was doing some work in his store when he heard some noises coming from the underground carpark. The man saw Peters standing up against the wall next to his black Ford hatchback.

A man who stole a phone from a Biloela supermarket blamed medication he was on at the time for his crime.
James Maxwell Venner, 53, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on Wednesday to one count of stealing.
Senior Constable Pete Rumford read the facts of Venner’s case to the court and Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale.
On December 2, police were made aware that a mobile phone had been stolen from a local supermarket in Biloela.
At 6.30pm the same day, Biloela police spoke to the supermarket’s management and reviewed CCTV footage of the incident, which placed Venner on scene as the perpetrator.
