ONLINE fashion retailer Boohoo has confirmed it has bought the Debenhams brand for £55 million - and will relaunch the department store as an online-only operation from next year. Bosses said the deal will NOT include saving Debenhams’ stores which will close for good as part of a structured winding down of the business. The deal means the landmark Taunton department store, in North Street, will close. It had been hoped any deal would see the store saved. Taunton is also home to the Debenhams Support Centre, employing hundreds of staff. The future of that facility is not known. However, Boohoo has confirmed the deal to buy the brand does noes not include taking on any of the 242-year-old firm s 118 high street stores.
