WIU to receive $89M for performing arts center from Rebuild Illinois Plan
MACOMB (WGEM) The Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) announced it has selected OWP/P Cannon Design, Inc. as the preferred architectural design firm for the new Performing Arts Center at Western Illinois University (WIU) in Macomb.
The state reported Tuesday that the $89 million project is moving forward as part of Gov. Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois capital plan.
State officials reported the new 100,000 square foot Performing Arts Center will consist of a performance auditorium, convocation center for recitals, lectures, graduation ceremonies, and local art and civic functions.
CDB will oversee the project’s design and construction in accordance with the protocol for state-appropriated projects.

MACOMB State Representative Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) spoke out Monday in opposition to Governor JB Pritzker’s signing of a criminal justice bill that barely passed the House at the end of the January lame-duck session of the Illinois General Assembly.
“This so-called ‘criminal justice’ bill endangers public safety, is anti-police and gives more rights to criminals than to their victims,” Rep. Hammond said. “Law enforcement officials across Illinois believe HB 3653 will threaten the safety of Illinois families and make it more difficult for law enforcement to keep our communities safe. I voted against this dangerous bill and am saddened, but not surprised, that Governor Pritzker has signed it into law.”
