GUWAHATI: A meeting was held among the supporters of State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) vice president Jayanta Das at Rukminigaon here on Tuesday. The supporters showed their resentment against the top brass of the party for denying Dispur LAC ticket to Das. The supporters also urged Das, who was also present at the meeting, to contest independently. Later, talking to the media, Das said that he will take a decision soon whether to contest as an independent candidate or not.

GUWAHATI: Several leaders of various political parties including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal submitted their nomination papers in their respective constituencies on Tuesday the last day for filing of nomination for the first phase of Assembly elections slated on March 27. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on March 10. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 12.
Altogether 47 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) –across 11 of the total 34 districts of Assam are going to the polls in the first phase. These 11 districts are Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Chariadeo, Tinsukia, Majuli, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji.

GUWAHATI: A plot to disturb the poll process by assassinating top leaders including a Minister has been unearthed by the State Police.
Based on a telephonic conversation, Crime Branch Guwahati and Dispur Police arrested pro-talk ULFA leader Pradeep Gogoi from Hatigaon on Monday night in this regard. Meanwhile, two other persons who were on the call with Gogoi Manab Pathak and Ketu Mudi were also arrested from Karbi Anglong the same night. Manab Pathak serves the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) as a market supervisor while Ketu Mudi is his associate.
