The government with the intent to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation and start-ups in the country launched the Start-up India initiative on January 16, 2016.
In a reply to the Lok Sabha, the Commerce Ministry informed that India has created a total of 72,993 start-ups in six years from 2016 to 2022. Amongst these, Maharashtra has 13,519 start-ups, while Karnataka has 8,881 start-ups, for the same period.
