the disconnect. you know it s funny because people think, people think that because they know certain writers that is true for all writers, right? the fact is there is very few people that actually make a lot of money in the industry, that s why you would know them, right? it s kind of like actors, athletes, you know the big ones you know the famous ones, but there are a lot of other people that are coming up the letter that have been around. and the system isn t, it does not work of same for everybody, when i sold my show what people don t understand is you get paid basically in installments, and they say when you turn in one thing, when you turn an idea, we turn in the outline of a certain draft you get paid in installments, but sometimes you do not get paid on time, so you have to make the money stretch, even theoretically, you know that you have it, you don t really have it. so my show got picked up, i had to buy a dress and then return
america began their strike tuesday, after talks for an agreement failed. on a new contract with the alliance of motion picture and television producers. the long and short of it, rioters are being left behind in the age of streaming content. before we dive into this, we want to note comcast, which owns nbc universal, is one of the entertainment companies represented by the alliance of motion picture and television studios, tv networks and distributing platforms. joining me now, comedian, writer, producer and my friend, cristela alonzo. listen, cristela, i don t think people think, oh, you write a hollywood, you must be rolling in it, which is why this tweet from you got everybody s attention. fun fact, when i got my sitcom, that i wrote, starred in, got picked up to series, i was broken had to borrow money to get by and by close to where two up fronts in nyc. this was after a year of having sold the show. people thought it was rich when i had no money. pay rioters so talk to me about
seditious conspiracy, the government is basically saying that the proud boys are a terrorist cell. the fact that they had guilty verdicts come back mean that the connections to trump, they have very close connections, means that he is in bed with a terrorist cell. so going forward it will be interesting to see whether the doj uses the proud boys verdict to show that he is really generous ex insurrection. melissa, if you are what does this conviction mean to you? these are huge, i think, for jack smith. whether they are huge in the broader scheme of things, that is another matter. these are rear and efforts to deal with domestic terrorism. we know that domestic extremists are on the rise. we don t really have any ways of addressing that the front and. so there is a lot that these convictions can do four other cases, but the broader question of preventing this, i m not sure that this does prevent future domestic extremism and terrorism. right. i want you to speak to that point.
it s very funny, i have to say that is one of the funniest scenes, but there are many. this is a movie in which i was consistently laughing. and it s either doing crazy comedy like that or, very often, it s riffing on movie cliches and more importantly, nicolas cage movies. so if you are a fan of things like face off, con air, moonstruck, even, there are lots of references, some explicit, some not explicit. even if you re not a fan, i have to say, this is just a funny movie about a hollywood star having a bit of a bromance. it s actually quite a sweet buddy comedy in the end. ok, i mean, iwas wondering, do you have to have encyclopaedic knowledge of his back catalogue to get all the jokes? i think it helps that he is a cult hero for a lot of film fans, and those are the people that are going to get the absolute most out of this. but still, i would say it s just a great comedy to watch in a cinema, laughing along with a lot of people. it s not maybe as clever as something like adapt
hero for a lot of film fans, and those are the people that are going to get the absolute most out of this. but still, i would say it s just a great comedy to watch in a cinema, laughing along with a lot of people. it s not maybe as clever as something like adaptation, which nicolas cage starred in, or even being john malkovich from the same director. it s not that kind of intellectual kind of comedy, but it is very funny, meta, self referential hollywood comedy. and he is terrific at sending himself up in this. oh, well, that s good, he would need to be. interesting, thanks, anna. well, goodness, in the current climate, we all need something to laugh about, don t we? the second choice, my goodness, a very, very serious, very different. this is a very impressive, i think, debut from a belgian film maker, laura wandel. it s set in a school. it s about a young girl who starts going to her own brother s school, and they have a very sweet relationship at home. that s the impression we get.
