i just don t know if there are enough people in the country who can dig below the floor 47, 48%. before i let you go, we have 30 seconds left, this is an ongoing relationship between these far-right groups and the current gop. it is a relationship that is only growing. the media, right-wing media, law enforcement and politicians have never rebuffed their fascist footsoldiers in the street. and therefore, they are only growing. they feel they have that tacit and explicit endorsement from the gop. so they are only moving forward, with or without trump. so that is going to take the gop to pull those soldiers out of the street themselves. so far, we haven t seen any of that. melissa, andy, as always. thank you so much. jamal, you are sticking with me. coming up, republican leaders offer threats and prayers, someone whose lives are forever changed by gun violence. what she would like to hear as well. plus, house republicans planning to vote on new border immigration package this
jack smith as they take into efforts by trump s allies to undo president joe biden s victory. joining me now, msnbc and we lob professor melissa and campbell. he is the author of we are proud boys. john simmons as with us at the table. melissa, trump had a lot to say about the e. jean carroll case. why not agreed to take the stand? well, there s no point, really, in taking the stand. he hasn t been in the courtroom during this. does have to be. it is not a criminal trial. the standard that the jury will have to determine here is a preponderance of the evidence, which is much lower than the standard that will be the issue with the criminal case which will be beyond reasonable doubt. so the jury just has to find that the allegations against him are more likely true than not. so if he comes to trial and he testifies he actually runs the risk that providing more evidence that can be used against him and other cases. so it makes sense to stay this one out. let s talk about the depos
seditious conspiracy, the government is basically saying that the proud boys are a terrorist cell. the fact that they had guilty verdicts come back mean that the connections to trump, they have very close connections, means that he is in bed with a terrorist cell. so going forward it will be interesting to see whether the doj uses the proud boys verdict to show that he is really generous ex insurrection. melissa, if you are what does this conviction mean to you? these are huge, i think, for jack smith. whether they are huge in the broader scheme of things, that is another matter. these are rear and efforts to deal with domestic terrorism. we know that domestic extremists are on the rise. we don t really have any ways of addressing that the front and. so there is a lot that these convictions can do four other cases, but the broader question of preventing this, i m not sure that this does prevent future domestic extremism and terrorism. right. i want you to speak to that point.
