Under Presidential Proclamation No. 25 signed on July 28 by Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez, the official said the holiday would give the people of Samar the opportunity to celebrate. "It is but fitting and proper that the people of Samar province be given the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government," Rodriguez said in a proclamation posted by the local government on Wednesday. Some 408 policemen formally accepted their temporary assignment through a ceremony on Wednesday at the regional headquarters here, the PNP said in a media release on Thursday. Electric coops stepping up restoration in typhoon-hit Visayas areas

Published April 23, 2021, 5:07 PM The country’s electric cooperatives (ECs) are stepping up restoration efforts to bring back electricity supply in many areas that had been recently pummeled by typhoon Bising – primarily those in Visayas and the Bicol region. The National Electrification Administration (NEA), which has supervisory function over the ECs, indicated that the power utilities “are continuously working to fix the damage to power distribution facilities and restore electricity.” As culled from the monitoring report of the NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department, several areas in Region 8 or Eastern Visayas experienced differing scale of power service interruptions. The domains that had been encumbered with snagged power supply included Western Samar – primarily in the franchise areas of Samar I Electric Cooperative (SAMELCO I) – but some areas already had their electricity service restored, according to NEA.
