Program looks at Motown history

Program looks at Motown history FacebookTwitterEmail Performers such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and The Supremes made the Motown Sound a staple of music in the 1960s and a new Jacksonville Public Library program will take a look at the phenomenon. Berry Gordy Jr. started Tamla Records in Detroit in 1959 and a year later incorporated Motown Records. Its horns- and strings-heavy style of rhythm and blues was responsible for more than 100 hit songs in the 1960s and early 1970s. Using audio and visual content, Gary Wenstrup will trace the journey of the people behind the music. He has developed courses on musical topics for the College of DuPage, Oakton College and Harper College.
