Freedom fighter had pledged body to medical college, but was cremated with state honours
On Wednesday, volunteers who have been helping out with cremations in the city, had the honour of giving the final farewell to the city’s most respected, feisty centenarian freedom fighter HS Doreswamy.
Though Doreswamy had wanted his body to be donated to a medical college and had willed it too, due to covid, they could not donate his body and decided to go with cremation where state honours were given. Tanveer Ahmed from Mercy Angels said that their team had the opportunity and honour to be part of the last rites and to be able to carry his body.

Bengaluru, May 26 : After winning over the battle against dreaded Coronavirus a fortnight ago, eminent Gandhian and freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy, passed away at the ripe age of 103 due to cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
Doreswamy had contracted Covid on May 8 and was admitted to Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) in Bengaluru and was discharged on May 13 but on May 14, was re-admitted due to post-Covid complications after he complained of severe weakness and fatigue. Here he breathed his last, his close confidante, Ravi Krishna Reddy told reporters.
