Atchannaidu was arrested earlier this week for allegedly threatening and preventing a Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader from filing a nomination for the post of sarpanch in Nimmada village ahead of gram panchayat elections in the state. Speaking to reporters, Atchannaidu s lawyer G Ramarao said: We had applied for a bail petition for Atchannaidu in connection with the case filed at Kotabommali police station.

TDP workers alleged that Atchannaidu has been arrested while the police has not confirmed the arrest yet. According to sources, a case has been registered based on a complaint by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) against Atchannaidu for allegedly threatening a person and preventing him from filing nomination for the post of sarpanch in the ongoing gram panchayat elections.

He was produced before the Sessions Court in Kotabommali which remanded him in custody for two weeks. Police have shifted Atchannaidu to district jail at Ampolu near Srikakulam town. Atchannaidu is accused in the case of threatening and attacking Kinjarapu Appanna, who is contesting for sarpanch post in Nimmada village with the support of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP). Atchannaidu and Appanna are relatives. Atchannaidu s wife is contesting for sarpanch position with the support of TDP. As a result, Atchannaidu asked Appanna not to contest in the elections, which he refused to do. That led to a tense situation in Nimmada village on Sunday.

The incident took place in Kasibugga town on Monday when policewoman Sirisha carried the body of an unidentified old man which was found in the outskirts of Adivikothuru village in the range of Palasa Kasibugga municipality. The sub-inspector took the initiative of carrying the body and handing it over to Lalita Charitable Trust for final rites.

However, the police did not respond to clarify the matter. It is being reported that Venkatrao has been arrested in connection with the case of a scuffle at Ramateertham on January 2. On that day, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy had visited Ramateertham Lord Ram temple where the almighty s idol was desecrated. There was a clash between workers of both parties. Based on the complaints by YSRCP activists, the police had filed cases against several people. Venkatrao has been arrested in connection with those cases.
