The TDP-backed sarpanch candidate Kinjarapu Suresh has won the Nimmada panchayat election by a huge margin over his nearest rival and YSRCP-backed candidate Kinjarapu Appanna.
Mr. Suresh was polled 1,670 votes and Mr. Appanna 157.
The election caught the attention of everyone with the arrest of TDP State president K. Atchannaidu a few days before the polling on the charge of creating violence during the nomination of Mr. Appanna. Mr. Naidu contended that there was no need for him to stop anyone from filing a nomination in Nimmada since it had been a bastion for the TDP for three decades.

Srikakulam, Feb 2 : After his arrest for allegedly trying to stop a candidate Kinjarapu Appanna s nomination for the upcoming Andhra Pradesh civic polls, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) State President Kinjarapu Atchannaidu on Tuesday threatened police officials that on becoming the Home Minister in the future, he would take revenge on them.

Andhra Pradesh TDP president Atchennaidu was arrested on Tuesday and shifted to Kotabommali police station from his house at Nimmada. Later, he was shifted to Kotabommali community helath centre and Covid-19 test was done on him. Then he was shifted to Kotabommali court.
During the filing of nominations for panchayat polls in Nimmada, the TDP and YCP activists jostled with each other. The candidate supported by YCP, Kinjarapu Appanna, tried to file the papers with the help of people from other village , local leaders in Nimmada expressed objection to it.
Learning about the incident, YCP candidate and party Tekkali constituency coordinator Duvvada Srinivas along with a few other leaders, tried to reach the place. Sensing that the situation was spiralling out of control, the police tried to confine the political leaders at their places. Armed police personnel were also deployed.

Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], February 2 (ANI): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Andhra Pradesh President Kinjarapu Atchannaidu was arrested at his house in Nimmada village for attacking YSRCP-backed candidate Kinjarapu Appanna on Tuesday morning.
He was produced before the Sessions Court in Kotabommali which remanded him in custody for two weeks. Police have shifted Atchannaidu to district jail at Ampolu near Srikakulam town.
Atchannaidu is accused in the case of threatening and attacking Kinjarapu Appanna, who is contesting for sarpanch post in Nimmada village with the support of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP).
Atchannaidu and Appanna are relatives. Atchannaidu s wife is contesting for sarpanch position with the support of TDP. As a result, Atchannaidu asked Appanna not to contest in the elections, which he refused to do. That led to a tense situation in Nimmada village on Sunday.
