Springfield Easter Bunny Hop makes sure kids have fun even in pandemic

The COVID pandemic has changed a lot about kids lives in the past year, but one thing hasn’t changed - holidays are fun, and a bunch of people at the Elks Club on Tiffany Street made sure that this Easter was still fun for kids at a drive-through Easter celebration Saturday afternoon.
Called the Easter Bunny Hop, The Elks, the Springfield Police Department’s Forest Park C3 Unit and Springfield Together organized the reverse parade. While mom and dad drove the family car, the kids were showered with Easter eggs, candy, toys, and surprises passed out by Elks volunteers, police officers, teachers and furry mascots, including Elroy the Elk and The Springfield Thunderbird’s own Boomer.

LUDLOW Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi often partners with community organizations, political leaders and businesses to find funding or create programs to help people struggling with addiction, mental illness and poverty.
This holiday season, as many families struggle with illness or job losses due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cocchi has called on Santa Claus to help him deliver toys to children who might otherwise not have any gifts to open this year.

It’s no doubt been a difficult year for everyone, including our Springfield police officers. I am so proud that our officers continue to show up to work each day and do an incredible job, from handling mental-health calls to getting illegal firearms off the street and doing so in a professional manner.

In November, more than 100 members of the Springfield Police Department participated in No-Shave November to raise awareness for cancer, raising more than $6,000. Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Claprood, Mayor Dominic Sarno and Santa passed Christmas stockings through car windows Saturday during the Holiday Stocking Giveaway at the Elks Lodge on Tiffany Street.

Despite the cold, grey, rainy Saturday afternoon dozens of police officers, teachers and regular Springfield citizens turned out to pass out nearly 600 gift-filled Christmas stockings to invited students from Forest Park schools. Called the Holiday Stocking Giveaway, organizers from the Police Department’s C3 Forest Park Unit, Springfield teachers, members of Springfield Together and Santa himself, handed out stockings filled with candy, books, and small gifts to each of the children.
