They ve received reports of a scammer claiming to be a detective with the CCPD and threatening to arrest people. The CCPD says it s a scam and they offer this advice on how to be avoid being swindled. First watch out for spoofing. Many scammers will fake their phone number so it appears like a well-known agency on a caller ID. They say the caller may even provide you with a badge number and the last 4 of your social security number.

Millions of scam calls are placed in this country each day, but the News 8 On Your Side team has been hearing from dozens of viewers recently about one particular call that s using your neighbors phone numbers to get to you.Sue Sheeler, of Lancaster County, was the first person to make a report to 8 On Your Side consumer investigator Brian Roche after she returned one of the more than 30 calls she received. And I ended up getting this gentleman that said to me, We re going to issue a new Medicaid card or Medicare card, she said.Sheeler knew the call was a scam and didn t provide any information.She kept a list of the calls, and they all started with the same six numbers: 717-575.
