Just as it was starting to look like the box office was making progress, two big new movies underwhelmed in North America this weekend. The biggest let-down was
Spiral: From The Book of Saw, a movie Lionsgate hoped would resurrect a franchise that ran its course quite some time ago.
If you’ve seen Spiral: From the Book of Saw, you might have thought the film’s surprise ending came as a reaction to some very serious real-world issues. But as director Darren Lynn Bousman revealed to io9 in a recent interview, that’s not the case.

It’s unclear at the moment, but when we got home, he said to me, “There was one point during a really gory scene when I was cringing and watching through my fingers and I looked over at you and you were like this…” Then he pretended to be me, on the edge of my seat with hands folded calmly, looking up at the screen in wide-eyed wonder… SMILING.
