Whether you re a glutton for gore or someone who covers their eyes during horror movies, chances are you know who this is: Jigsaw, the nightmare-inducing villain of the Saw franchise. When I started off making the Saw films, gore and violence was a gimmick. I used it to try to gross out the audience, as well as one-up other horror filmmakers.
Darren Lynn Bousman is the filmmaker behind the second, third and fourth films in the Saw franchise. And this year, he s back with Spiral a new film in the franchise starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson.
And speaking of elaborate traps, that s exactly what you ll get in the clip below, which follows an unwitting plainclothes cop (Dan Petronijevic) as he descends down into subway tunnels beneath the city on the hunt for a suspect, only to be ambushed by a person in a familiar pig-faced mask. With just days to go before the release of the film, and several other clips already living online, Lionsgate has released the full opening scene for
Spiral: From the Book of Saw. The scene reveals the first gnarly new trap that will be seen in the film while also giving us a tease of what the new killer s motives and modus operandi are as a Jigsaw Killer copycat. Publicly there hasn t yet been a name given to the new killer in the film, but it s worth noting that the killer concludes his messages to his first victim with a very familiar line from the Saw series, Live or die, make your choice.
