ADRIAN A marijuana company wants to turn land on West Beecher Road into its own business park.
The Adrian City Commission approved the sale of another 54 acres to Objectiv Growth Monday. The sale, worth $500,000, is the second land deal the two entities have struck. The city agreed to sell 102 acres of its Marvin Farm property to the company last November for $1.3 million. The land is across from Fluresh on the north side of Beecher.
What originally started out as an offer of $500,000 for 20 acres has turned into a $1.8 million deal for the city, which has owned the property since 2003. The city will net a profit, too, as it purchased the land for about $1.25 million, according to city administrator Greg Elliott.

ADDISON Being the new kid in school can be tough. You have to learn a new school, make new friends, get to know a new set of teachers and figure out where and how you fit in.
Trying to do that following the loss of a family member makes it even harder.
This is how fourth grader Emalynn Jay s first year at Addison Elementary School began. Just a few weeks into the school year, Jay s younger brother, Michael Junior, died from cancer. He was only 2 years old.
Michael was on hospice care when the school year started. It was something Emalynn s teacher and district was aware of.

ADRIAN An Adrian Police Department investigation into a report of a man with a rifle turned up nothing.
Police were dispatched at 10:14 p.m. Friday to Barrington Lane and Parkview Avenue inside a subdivision off of Division Street near Meijer. There had been a report of a man standing in the road with a rifle.
Central dispatch updated the officers in route that the subject had gotten into a parked vehicle.
Lt. Curt Whiting and officers Brandon Graf and Austin Moll responded to the call, according to Moll s report.
The trio identified a vehicle matching the description, a silver Chevrolet Impala. Graf and Whiting asked the person to step out of the vehicle while Moll, with rifle in hand, went around a nearby home and took position behind an unoccupied vehicle.
