Senior IPS officer Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was on Tuesday appointed as the new Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief for a period of two years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has, based on the panel recommended by the Committee constituted as per Section 4A(1) of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, approved the appointment of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, IPS(Mh-1985) as Director-Central Bureau of Investigation for a period of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the office, a government notification said.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) chief Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has been appointed as Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years, a government notification said on Tuesday evening.

Subodh Kumar Jaiswal is a 1985 batch officer from the Maharashtra cadre. He has also served as the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Director General of Maharashtra Police. Jaiswal was also with the Research and Analysis Wing (RA&W) for nine years, during which he served as the additional secretary for three years.

Uttar Pradesh DGP HC Awasthy, SSB DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra, and Special Secretary Home Ministry VSK Kaumudi were shortlisted for the post of CBI director during a meeting of a high-powered committee, comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and two others, on Monday, sources said.
Awasthy, a 1985-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has served as joint director and in other senior positions in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is at present the director-general of police in Uttar Pradesh.
Chandra, a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, is at present posted as the director general of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), while Kaumudi, a 1986-batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, is posted as the special secretary for internal security in the Home Ministry.
According to news agency PTI, serving Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the senior-most batches 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987 are being considered for the top post in the CBI. Over 100 officers from the 1984-87 batches were considered by the committee, reported NDTV.
According to an NDTV report, the committee has shortlisted three names for the post. Uttar Pradesh DGP HC Awasthy, SSB DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra and Special Secretary Home Ministry VSK Kaumudi have been shortlisted for the post.
