fast-approaching deadline for a plan to slash the nation s deficit has sparked democratic members of the super committee to action. the plan proposed by senate finance chairman max baucus goes beyond the group s $1.2 trillion mandate reportedly seeking 2.5 to $3 trillion in budget cuts over 10 years. up to $500 billion in medicare cuts and more than $1 trillion in new tax revenue and that right there is your sticking point with republicans. according to one source more than 50% of the plan s deficit reduction would come from tax hikes. that s an idea that will doom the proposal, say some republicans, they have said they will not accept any such increases. democrats say their ideas were inspired by negotiations that took place, remember, between president obama and house speaker john boehner this summer. speaking yesterday, speaker boehner noted the difficulty in achieving what he calls fiscal sanity in washington. i can tell you that these 12 members, democrats and republicans, have
