Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has appointed senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, ex-Speaker and Labour Minister Dilip Walse-Patil as the new Home Minister. The CM also tweaked his Cabinet by handing over the Labour department to Minister Hasan Mushrif, and State Excise portfolio to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Cooperator Patil replaces Deshmukh as Maha Home Minister

Sugar cooperative veteran Dilip Walse Patil has been appointed as the new home minister of Maharashtra in the wake of resignation of Anil Deshmukh. Patil was the Chairman of the apex body of national sugar co-op federation before he was inducted in the Cabinet of Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition. Patil is an MLA from Ambegaon, Pune from NCP. He is former Finance Minister and Ex-Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He was also PA to Sharad Pawar. Patil is also on the board of Pune District Central Cooperative Bank. According to his friends, Patil has been active in cooperatives for many years. He is also on the board of Bhimashankar Sahakar Sakaar Kharkhana Limited also.

The high command of the party asked me to resign from the post. I obeyed them, Patole said. The Sakoli MLA had quit the BJP to join the Congress party in 2017. He was made the Speaker of Maharashtra s Legislative Assembly after the Maha Vikas Aghadi came to power in 2019 after the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance failed to form a government due to disagreement over the Chief Minister post.
