Somerset County Council and NHS pay tribute to fantastic Covid vaccine volunteers

Somerset County Council and the NHS have paid tribute to all the fantastic volunteers supporting Somerset’s Covid-19 vaccination programme. More than 1,000 people have answered the call supporting 20 vaccination sites across the county including community-based locations, hospital hubs, some GP surgeries and large vaccination centres at Taunton Racecourse and the Bath & West Showground. The vaccination programme is led by the NHS with support from Somerset County Council, district councils and partners. Spark Somerset was asked to help recruit volunteers for roles such as stewarding and marshalling, meeting and greeting people as they arrive, and directing them to park safely. Councillor Clare Paul, Somerset County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health said: “I want to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers who have answered the call and are playing a key part in Somerset’s vaccination programme.

Yeovil Window Wanderland to take place this month | Chard & Ilminster News

THIS February, one Somerset town is bringing colour to the streets with two exciting projects. Yeovil is set to take part in Window Wanderland and residents are being encouraged to light up and put a display in their windows between February 15 and 28. Nearly 100 households and businesses in the town have signed up to take part so far. “Yeovil town has excelled itself with its Christmas lights display and we wanted to explore the idea of a colourful celebration of our amazing town at another point in the winter to lift people’s spirits,” said Yeovil Window Wanderland project co-ordinator, Kara Bignell-Bird.

Somerset County Council launches £1m food support package

Somerset County Council. - Credit: Google Street View A £1million support package has been set up to support Somerset families in need with food in the coming months.  Somerset County Council, district authorities and the Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group have worked with partners to ensure thousands of children and their families get the food they need when they need across Christmas and winter.  All Somerset schools will be provided with £30 for every child who receives free school meals for the Christmas holidays and £15 for February half term. Places of learning will distribute vouchers or food to families with children at schools accordingly.
