Children improve Spangler Farm

In the hot and humid morning of Wednesday, July 7, members of the National Society of Children of the American Revolution worked on various maintenance projects on the Spangler Farm, 488 Blacksmith Shop Road, Gettysburg. At left, Jacob Shadinger, of Chicago, president of the National Society of Children of the American Revolution, works alongside members of the organization The youngsters spread wood chips and gravel, stacked firewood and performed other tasks for the Gettysburg Foundation which maintains the site of a large field hospital during and after the battle of Gettysburg. Above, following a morning of hard work, the group relaxed in the cool of the farm’s barn and heard a presentation on the farm’s significance during and after the battle by Paul Semanek, the Spangler Farm site coordinator.John Armstrong/Gettysburg Times
