FORT PIERCE The U.S. Coast Guard halted a search late Sunday for six people lost at sea after their boat apparently capsized last week several miles off the Fort Pierce Inlet.
Coast Guard officials said Monday a search that began Friday morning ended Sunday around 10:30 p.m. without locating the missing people who were in an estimated 18-foot boat en route from Bimini when it capsized.
“The decision to suspend a search-and-rescue case is never one we come to lightly,” said Capt. JoAnn Burdian, commander of Coast Guard Sector Miami. “We offer our deepest sympathies to the friends and families of those involved during this difficult time.”
