20th annual Bluff Country Studio Art Tour – where art is made (4/7/2021)
From April 23-25, 2021, artists in Southeastern Minnesota’s Bluff Country will open the doors to their creative spaces for a behind-the-scenes studio view not usually offered to the general public. During this annual self-guided event, these accomplished artists will be displaying their work, demonstrating their processes and selling pottery, paintings, turned wood items, jewelry, fiber arts and more. Set your own pace while driving through the scenic hills and valleys of Sutheastern Minnesota’s Bluff Country exploring one of the area’s best attractions: our artists.
Tour Coordinator Sue Pariseau says, “The Bluff Country Studio Art Tour is free to the public so don’t miss this treasure filled spring adventure to see the places where art is made.” Participating studios, galleries and shared spaces are open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 23-25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
SE MN Arts Council grant apps due April 1 (3/17/2021)
The Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (SEMAC) announces a call for arts programming proposals by nonprofit organizations. All proposed projects must begin no earlier than June 1, 2021, and be completed within 12 months, culminating with a capstone event that is accessible and open to the public. Online applications will be available throughout March with an April 1, 2021, submission deadline at semac.org/grants/grant-applications.php.
SEMAC, a nonprofit arts agency, is designated by the State of Minnesota Arts Board as the regional arts council for eleven southeastern Minnesota counties: Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, and Winona.

AUSTIN Early voting has begun for the special primary election for the District 1 seat on the Mower County Board of Commissioners.
The primary, Feb. 9, will determine which of the seven candidates will replace the late Commissioner Tim Gabrielson, who was re-elected Nov. 3 then died unexpectedly on Nov. 10. Once the top two individuals are determined, those candidates will face off for the special election general on April 13.

.- Kieran McDonnell is an emerging artist and painter based in Winona, Minnesota. He received a Bachelor of Arts in studio art from Winona State University and an Associate of Fine Arts from Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC). Before relocating to Winona, McDonnell exhibited his work throughout the region at the Watkins Gallery, Weber Gallery, Garage Co-work Space, and the RCTC Art Gallery. Recent works were featured in the Rockchester Festival virtual art exhibition. McDonnell is a 2019 recipient of the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council grant for emerging artists.
