(ABC 6 News) - Voters in Mower County have selected a new District One County Commissioner in a special election Tuesday evening.
According to the Mower County Auditor s Office, unofficial results have John Mueller defeating Tim Duren, 408 to 304.
John Mueller retired in February after serving 30 years in law enforcement, 27 of those as a lieutenant for the Austin Police Department. Mueller was born and raised in Austin and plans to work with residents and business owners in the district.
Back in November, Commissioner Tim Gabrielson passed away and the board approved to hold a special election for the seat.

(ABC 6 NEWS) - New lawmakers and government leaders are settling into their new positions, but election season is not over in Mower County.
There is a special primary election coming up in a little over a week on February 9.
Back in November, District 1 Mower County Commissioner, Tim Gabrielson unexpectedly passed away shortly after being reelected.
A special primary election is being held to fill the vacancy.
Seven people are in the running to represent District 1 in Mower County.
Mower County Administrator, Trish Harren said things will be a little different compared to November s general election.

AUSTIN Early voting has begun for the special primary election for the District 1 seat on the Mower County Board of Commissioners.
The primary, Feb. 9, will determine which of the seven candidates will replace the late Commissioner Tim Gabrielson, who was re-elected Nov. 3 then died unexpectedly on Nov. 10. Once the top two individuals are determined, those candidates will face off for the special election general on April 13.

UPDATE: James Williams withdrew from consideration by the December 15 deadline, leaving seven candidate for the February 9, 2021 primary.
MOWER COUNTY, Minn. – Eight candidates have filed to be the next District 1 Mower County Commissioner.
The position was opened by the unexpected death of Commissioner Tim Gabrielson on November 10. Since he was just re-elected on November 3, state law mandates a special election to fill the vacancy.
