Springfield seeks housing developer for South End site that once housed Gemini textile factory

SPRINGFIELD Seventeen years after a fire destroyed a textile factory there, the city is seeking a developer for the long-vacant Gemini property in the South End.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced the solicitation Thursday for the city-owned site that formerly housed a 100,000-square-foot textile mill owned by the Gemini Corp.
The city’s stated goal for the property is a “high quality multi-family residential home ownership development,” the solicitation states.
“The Gemini site has vast potential to anchor continued revitalization of our South End neighborhood area,” Sarno said in a statement. “As always we will work with our neighborhood councils and business associations in this case the South End Citizens Council and South End Business Association to bring an economic development project that is conducive and enhances more opportunities for ou
