The 21 people present for the first night of the latest class of the Franklin County Sheriff s Office s Citizens Police Academy all had different reasons for being there.
Some had always admired law enforcement and wanted an inside look into the profession. Others seated in the room at a sheriff s support services building were interested in one day pursuing a career in law enforcement themselves.
One participant said he simply wanted to see what his tax dollars were funding.
Whatever their reasons for attending, Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said he mainly has one reason for offering the program: transparency. What s a better way to let the public know what we do than something like this? Baldwin asked shortly before he would introduce himself last month at the first of what would be 13 weekly sessions. We re a public agency, and our job is to serve the community, and we can only do that if we have a good relationship.
