Family, community members, elected officials and activists released balloons Friday night in honor of Reign Ware, 5, who was shot to death early Sunday morning on the Near West Side.
Dozens gathered for a vigil Friday evening in the 200 block of South Campbell Avenue, where Reign Ware was shot and killed as she sat in a car with her dad.
Reign Ware was leaving a family party in the 200 block of South Campbell Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Sunday when a Jeep Cherokee pulled up and shots were fired. Reign was killed. A 24-year-old man was wounded.
Among the dead are 5-year-old Reign Ware, who was fatally shot in the abdomen while sitting in a parked car in the 200 block of South Campbell Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
