BIRMINGHAM The Leeds softball team on Saturday capped off a 3-0 run through the Class 5A, Area 10 tournament with a come-from-behind win over Ramsay in the championship game.
Maddie Anthony doubled with two RBIs, Maddie Payne scattered three hits to go with two RBIs of her own and the Greenwave overcame a five-run deficit to beat the 1-seed Rams 15-13 at Huffman High School.

Leeds also notched a tournament winner’s bracket game over Ramsay on Thursday, 8-4, and started with a 10-0 win over Parker. On Saturday in the area finals, Leeds slipped into a 3-0 hole in the top of the first and later went to the middle of the third on the wrong side of an 8-3 score. Hewitt-Trussville 13, Tuscaloosa County 4
It was senior night in Trussville, and the top-ranked Huskies celebrated the occasion with a 13-4 victory over Tuscaloosa County. Seniors Madi Mitchell and Meredith Whitt both homered as Hewitt-Trussville (40-2-1, 4-1) captured its 40th win of the season and ninth in-a-row.
Senior pitcher Tori Hyde worked a complete game, holding the visitors to four runs and seven hits while her Huskies scattered 14 hits and built a 5-0 lead after two innings. Fellow seniors Crystal Maze (two hits and two RBIs), Jenna Lord (two hits and two runs scored), Anyce Harvey (three hits and two runs scored) and Katelyn Murphy (one hit and one RBI) also delivered at the plate.

Four local baseball/softball teams took the field on Monday, resulting in three wins for Tribune-area clubs. Each of those wins came from the softball field, as Springville extended its current winning streak, Leeds rolled by Carver-Birmingham and Pinson Valley rallied back from an 11-run deficit.

That makes it nine in-a-row for the Springville softball team.
The fourth-ranked Tigers (26-8, 5-0) extended their winning streak on Monday evening with an 11-1 Class 6A, Area 13 victory over Southside-Gadsden in six innings. For Springville, Graci Black logged a 3-for-3 evening with two RBIs and Makalyn Kyser drove in three more with a fifth-inning home run to center field.
