TWO new councillors have been elected to Malton Town Council. Gill Boler and Ian Conlan will join the council following a by-election last Thursday after two vacancies arose on the council. Gill stood as a Malton resident and Nursing Sister, while Ian Conlan as a Green Party. The other candidates were Luke Campbell, Conservative Party; Sophie Legard, Conservative Party and David Lloyd-Williams, Community Candidate. The vacancies came about as a result of the resignation of Cllr Chris Turner and the death of Cllr Ed Jowitt. Gill said: “Following my recent electionl I would like to thank the many residents who voted for me, and for the kind, supportive messages I have received. I am looking forward to working with the other council members on projects that continue to develop a safe, healthy town of which we can all be proud.
Here we have a statement from each of the candidates standing. Gill Boler -Malton resident and nursing sister Since moving to Malton 21 years ago I’ve played an active role in the community as nurse manager of Derwent Practice for 15 years – and musical director of many local shows. I’ve enjoyed working with people residents of all ages to produce entertainment and to support the maintenance of our historic places. I would proactively support the conservation of our wonderful countryside. It would be a privilege for me to work with a team – passionate about the continual development of Malton and the infrastructure to support it – and that’s a challenge that I would relish.
