Karbi Anglong civil society organisations condemn Assam-Meghalaya violence

Our Correspondent Diphu, Nov. 23 (EMN): Several Karbi Anglong civil organisations condemned the Mukrok firing incident in the Assam-Meghalaya border where six people were killed, including a forest guard, on Tuesday. In a joint press conference held at the District Press Club of Karbi Anglong office on Wednesday, Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS) convener, Khorsing Teron, said, ‘We strongly condemn the vested interest group of people who provoked attack upon the forest and police personnel and demand a high-level proper investigation into the incident and deployment of more security personnel along the interstate border for the safety and security of government official and employees, protection of forest reserve and to maintain law and order.’ Teron also said, ‘We appeal to all sections of people — Karbi, Khasi, and Jaintia — living in the border area to maintain peace and communal harmony. Taxation department of Karbi Anglong continues inspection drive on trade license

Our Correspondent Diphu, Nov. 10 (EMN): In continuation to the trade licence inspection drive, the Taxation department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Thursday conducted an inspection drive at Sukhajan daily market to check the trading licenses and Professional Tax from traders. Those without licenses were given a deadline of one week while those with expired licenses were ordered to renew at the earliest. The team was led by Deputy Secretary, KAAC, in-charge Taxation department, Sonasing Terang; Superintendent of Taxes, Mongalsing Taro and Assistant Commissioner of Taxes, Serdihun Beypi. The inspector of Taxes, assistant inspectors and enforcement constables visited shops and business establishments and checked the trading licenses of shopkeepers and businessmen. KAAC undertakes business trading license inspection drive

Our Correspondent Diphu, Nov. 7 (EMN): To check trading licenses from businessmen and shopkeepers under the jurisdiction of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the officials and staff of the Taxation Department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) conducted an inspection drive at Chowkihola town and Bogijan bordering Golaghat on Monday. The inspection team was led by the Deputy Secretary, KAAC, in-charge Taxation department, Sonasing Terang; Superintendent of Taxes, Mongalsing Taro and Assistant Commissioner of Taxes, Serdihun Beypi. Taxes department seals shops in Karbi Anglong

Our Correspondent Diphu, Oct. 28 (EMN): The Taxation department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) on Friday sealed the shops of some traders in Sukhanjan under Bokajan police station. The traders were allegedly involved in the attack on the tax officials on October 27 while they were on a drive to check trade licenses of shopkeepers. It may be recalled that the tax officials were attacked in the afternoon by a mob numbering around 100 armed with sticks, iron rods, stones and daos. Several officials, traders and members of the public were injured in the incident. The Tax department led by deputy secretary, Sonasing Terang, sealed the shop and godown of the main conspirator and organiser of the attack, Bijoy Singh.
