On Day 2, less than 50% beneficiaries receive shots- The New Indian Express

Express News Service NEW DELHI: The second day of Covid vaccination drive in the national capital failed to achieve even half the day’s target as only 3,598 beneficiaries received the jab against the government’s goal of inoculating 8,100. According to the Delhi government, only 44 per cent of the targeted health workers received the vaccines on Monday. However, the state’s figure didn’t match with that of the central government. As per the Union Health Ministry, only 3,111 beneficiaries received their dose in Delhi on Monday. On Saturday, which was the first day of the pan-India vaccination, as many as 4,319 beneficiaries had received the shot in the city. While no vaccination was carried out on Sunday, the tally on Monday dropped by 721 compared to Saturday’s figure.

Census of Asian waterbirds to start tomorrow

Express News Service NEW DELHI: The Asian Waterbird Census (AWC), an annual waterbird census by Wetlands International, will be conducted across the Delhi-NCR region in January. The Wetlands International (South Asia) will conduct the census from January 2 to January 17. The census team will cover seven places Okhla Bird Sanctuary, Surajpur Wetland, Dhanauri Wetland, Najafgarh Jheel and Drain, River Yamuna, Sanjay Lake and National Zoological Park. “Due to Covid-19 pandemic, limited number of volunteers from different institutions will be able to participate in AWC 2021 in Delhi-NCR. So far, 40 volunteers from different universities, colleges, nature NGOs, forest & wildlife divisions and individual experienced birders have confirmed participation,” said TK Roy, ecologist.
