ian s death toll in florida is rising today. can we get some help down here? more supplies are coming in. there were four boats that just arrived moments ago. this community has never ever seen this high of flooding before. now we re going into day four without having electricity. that s when you get to that life-threatening range. we have no power, no phone service, nothing. the buildings are ripped off of their foundation and swept backwards. should there have been a mandatory evacuation that came sooner. i wouldn t have changed anything. this storm was unpredictable. there s a degree of personal responsibility here. i think people got complacent. lyman was completely liberated. it s likely to have a roll-on effect to russian positions further towards the russian border in the days ahead. i m pamela brown in washington. you are live in the cnn newsroom. the death toll from hurricane ian jumps again in florida. 74 people now confirmed killed by th
needed to be the speaker for a fourth consecutive time. florida republican byron donalds appear to have received just enough support to prevent kevin mccarthy from getting to 218. so what happens now? the house remaining paralyzed this hour. no committees, no legislation, elected members can t even be sworn in. they don t even know if they are getting paid at this point after they have tried and failed again four times to elect a speaker. it s a level of dysfunction unseen in modern political history. so let s bring in an incredible panel. senior capitol hill correspondent garrett haake. yamiche alcindor is our washington correspondent. doug high is a republican strategist for the rnc. peter baker is chief white house correspondent for the new york times and an msnbc political analyst. steve kornacki is at the big board. garrett, tell us what s happening this second and what should we make of it? we re watching kevin mccarthy on his way going 0 for 4. byron donalds, the l
jessica schneider on exactly what the former president s lawyers are asking for and perhaps significantly which justice they re asking. jessica, what more do we know about what the former president is seeking from the court? right now they ve filed an emergency request at the court, anderson, even though they ve waited two weeks after the 11th circuit ruled on this. now we re finding out that the justice department has one more week to file its response. trump s team here, they re asking for very limited relief. basically what they want is the special master to get access to these 100 classified documents that he s been blocked from reviewing ever since the 11th circuit ruled and crucially here, if the special master regained access, that would mean that trump s legal team would also get to see the classified documents. that s something they ve long been angling for. what trump s team is arguing, they say the 11th circuit didn t have the jurisdiction to act when it did. now
take a big sharpy and black out whatever they want in that affidavit. then rinehart can decide whether or not he agrees with those redactions. and after weeks, possibly months of appeals, we ll probably end up with, well, no new information. just like today, when the judge unsealed some documents related to the warrant. they didn t really tell us anything. the cover letter, a motion to seal. not exactly transparency. it s just another thin coat of paint over this raid and investigation that makes it look like rinehart is playing fair. but rinehart is so biased that he once had to recuse himself from the last trump case. not to mention he is obama donor. and he, again, used to represent jeffrey epstein who, by the way, did not kill himself. this is all by design. the doj made sure they found a judge who would play ball. it doesn t seem like we re going to get truth, at least not any time soon. a lawyer fighting for the release of the affidavit says this proceeding is all about
of a mass shooting. this one at an elementary school. in about a half an hour, we expect an update from greg abbott on yesterday s shooting at rob elementary school. police say the shooter, armed with an ar-style rifle and wearing the type of vest tactical teams use, entered the school, barricaded himself in a classroom, and opened fire. police say they eventually had to break windows to evacuate other students and staffers. as investigators continue to piece together what transpired, they re learning more about the suspect himself. they have identified him as 18-year-old uvalde resident. no friend or girlfriend that we can identify. it s hard to identify what caused or sent this individual to, you know, complete this heinous act, this evil act. it shows you pure evilness with this individual going into a school, barricading himself inside a classroom, and shooting children and teachers. meanwhile, in washington flags are flying at half-staff outside the white house the d
