The situation at Gowdanapalya Lake has raised eyebrows, as it remains without any protective fencing, essentially extending an open invitation to potential violators. A new gate installed at Kothnur Lake lacks sufficient fencing, leaving the lake ecology exposed to potential harm. Chunchaghatta Lake, a rejuvenated lake, lacks adequate fencing, while Dorakere is said to have eight gateways to the lake. Konnanakunte Lake, rejuvenated in 2023, has a 100-meter boundary still with an old broken fence.
Meanwhile, the BBMP SWD assistant engineer has said he has already complained to the BWSSB authorities about sewage overflowing into the stormwater drain. When informed, the BWSSB assistant engineer said the UGD pipeline was damaged due to heavy vehicles’ movement during the stormwater drain construction.
While the authorities can open and close the gate at Sri Ayyappa Swamy Temple side, the gate at Somasundarapalya side remains open round the clock. With the gate always being open, it has become a destination for miscreants and anti-social elements at night. Lake activists said they are happy with the rejuvenation of the lake but the BBMP must fix the gate.
