Fresh allegations have emerged against Eskom CEO André de Ruyter, with a second executive accusing him of making another three senior appointments without following due process. Business Day has been reliably informed that last week Eskom’s board reversed, within a day, the addition of the names to the terms of reference for the independent investigation, to be done by senior counsel advocate Ishmael Semenya. He would have investigated eight questionable appointments by the CEO but three names have since been removed from that list.

Leaking De Ruyter’s affidavit countering racism claims was ‘malicious’ and reckless, says Scopa chairman
Mail & Guardian he believes that the leaking of an affidavit submitted by Eskom group chief executive André de Ruyter, meant for the committee, was a “malicious” act.
“This leak took us aback because it is malicious,” said Mkhuleko Hlengwa.
It was “reckless and irresponsible” to leak the affidavit to the media, and could be seen as an attempt to derail the committee’s investigation, which was postponed last week.
News24, which has the affidavit, has reported that De Ruyter “hit back at allegations of racism and abuse of power … in an explosive 53-page affidavit forwarded to parliament this week”.

Suspended Eskom procurement chief Solly Tshitangano faced a disciplinary hearing for 11 charges of misconduct in 2005, when he worked as a chief director at the Mpumalanga provincial treasury.
The outcome of the disciplinary is unknown, but the charges bear a similarity with charges Tshitangano is now facing at Eskom – failure to submit key strategic and regulatory documents on time, abusive or insolent behaviour to his boss, and failing to report irregularities as soon as he became aware of them, according to documents seen by News24.
