Early election less likely, ruling coalition ally says

News & Politics May 06, 2021 Poland s United Right coalition has managed to overcome major differences and there is now little chance of early elections, the leader of a small coalition ally has said. Speaking to the Catholic weekly Gosc Niedzielny, Jaroslaw Gowin, the leader of the liberal Agreement party, said that there are still numerous differences between the coalition leader Law and Justice, his party and the nationalist Solidary Poland, the other party in the United Right. A few weeks ago, Gowin said that the differences between the coalition partners had reached critical mass and warned that either we reach an agreement, or we ll face early elections within a year.

Poland sends national recovery plan to Brussels

News & Politics May 01, 2021 Poland has sent its draft of the National Recovery Plan to the European Commission, deputy minister for funds and regional development said on Friday night. The Council of Ministers has adopted the National Recovery Plan, and the European Commission already has it, Waldemar Buda wrote on Twitter.  All EU countries have to submit to the European Commission their own version of the recovery plan which describes how they will allocate the funds from the EU s recovery funding plan.  The Sejm (lower house of the Polish parliament) on May 4 is set to discuss a government draft law on ratifying an increase of the EU s own funds related to the EU multi-billion euro pandemic recovery fund.

Solidary Poland to vote against ratification of National Recovery Plan

News & Politics April 30, 2021 An MP from Solidary Poland, a junior member of the governing United Right coalition, said on Friday that his party’s would vote against the ratification of the National Recovery Plan. Sebastian Kaleta said nothing had changed to make the party drop its opposition to the plan, which needs parliamentary ratification for Poland to access billions of euros from the EU s pandemic recovery fund. Solidary Poland s objection to the plan is at odds with that of Law and Justice, the dominant party in the United Right, and could add further friction to the already abrasive relationship between the two.
