Poland’s State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin will soon “file a motion” for the removal of the Secretary of State in the Ministry, Janusz Kowalski, a source in the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party told the national press agency PAP. According to the information obtained by PAP, the reason for Kowalski’s upcoming dismissal were his comments opposing the government’s agreement to the compromise on the EU’s long-term budget and Next Generation EU fund. Kowalski is a member of Solidary Poland (Solidarna Polska), which is currently part of the ruling coalition. From the very beginning, Kowalski was strongly opposed to the budgetary package because of the conditionality mechanism, which his party considered would pose a threat to Poland’s sovereignty.
