Designs of the future are increasingly centering on environmental impact as the effects of climate change start to reach world-historical levels. This means not only engineers, but architects and artists are exploring new and unprecedented ways of reimagining their work to minimize intrusion on the natural environment.
Burning Man is a well-known annual event that brings a lot of entrepreneurial people into the presence of artists, which makes the development of a Solar Mountain to potentially power the 3,800-acre ranch of Burning Man with 300 MWG of power per year less of a stretch of the imagination.

Artists, architects, and other designers are finding new ways to consider the impact of their work and to design less intrusively. Burning Man is a well-known community focused on art and self-expression, so it is no surprise that even here, environmental awareness is entering creative discussions. Solar Mountain, one of 10 shortlisted proposals for LAGI 2020 Fly Ranch. Their design is a permanent installation on Burning Man’s 3,800-acre ranch that would produce 300 MWH of electricity annually.
The top 10 designs for Fly Ranch, a permanent outpost of the Burning Man festival, include an orchard planted in a rammed earth spiral and thatched composting toilets.
LAGI 2020 Fly Ranch is a collaboration between Burning Man and the Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI), which plans to build sustainable structures on a 3,800-acre ranch in Nevada s Black Rock Desert.

These 10 projects have been selected by a jury from 200 entries to the LAGI 2020 Fly Ranch design challenge.
Studios were invited to come up with designs that could sustainably offer shelter, produce energy, manage waste and water and provide food for the site.
