FG delegation commiserates with Sokoto inferno victims

The Federal Government has sent a high-powered delegation led by the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, Prof Abdullahi Gambari, to commiserate with the victims of last week’s fire outbreak at Sokoto Central Market, which led to the destruction of shops and property worth billions of naira. Speaking at Government House, Sokoto, yesterday, Gambari said President Muhammadu Buhari was touched when he heard the news of the fire outbreak. According to the CoS, the president should have been in Sokoto in person, but couldn’t make it due to official engagement; hence he mandated them to commiserate with the people of Sokoto.

The Convener, Network for the Defence of Democracy and Good Governance (NDDGG), Sobomabo Jackrich, has faulted the N500 million donation to Sokoto State government by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, describing it as reckless, selfish and politically motivated. Jackrich in a statement, issued on Monday to DAILY POST said they were worried about the way Wike was wasting the resources of the state without addressing the real challenges facing Rivers. He said while NDDGG sympathised with victims of the fire incident that occurred at the Sokoto Central Market, there was no justification for Wike to embark on such an unaccounted obligation, abandoning all the problems of Rivers.

Speaking at the chamber of the Government House Sokoto on Monday, Gambari said President Muhammadu Buhari was sad when he heard the unfortunate news of the fire outbreak. According to Gambari the president should have be in Sokoto in person but couldn’t make it due to other official engagements, hence he mandated them to come and commiserate with the good people of Sokoto state.
