The Rivers State Civil Society Organisation has criticised Governor Nyesom Wike over his N500m pledge to affected traders and rebuild the Sokoto Central Market, which was gutted by fire.
The state Chairman of the group, Enefaa Georgewill, said though there was nothing wrong for anyone to commiserate with victims of disasters, but there were a lot of pressing issues begging for attention in Rivers State.
The River State Government pledged the sum of N500m to support its Sokoto State counterpart in rebuilding the market, just as Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State donated N30m to the victims of the inferno.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Wednesday, pledged a N500 million donation for the rebuilding of a burnt market in Sokoto State.
Mr Wike’s pledge, on behalf of the Rivers State government, is coming at a time his administration is yet to resolve a lingering dispute over the non-payment of pensions and gratuity to thousands of retired civil servants in the oil-rich state.
The money, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), is for the rebuilding of the Sokoto Central Market destroyed by fire on Tuesday.

The leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Sokoto State, said that he was saddened with the unfortunate disaster that had destroyed assorted property believed to be worth millions of naira.
A press statement sign by his special assistant on media and publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, said the former governor extended his sincerest commiseration to the victims, as well as the entire people of the state.
