LAHORE: Polling for Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly (AJKLA) seats in Punjab was held on Sunday mainly peacefully amid complaints of rigging and mismanagement. However, two political workers were injured in Gujrat while a candidate suffered an injury in Shorkot in minor clashes.
At least 25 polling stations had been set up in Lahore for two seats – LA-34 Jammu-I and LA-41 Valley-II. The numbers of total votes for the two seats was 9,131.
Stringent security arrangements had been made to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the voters and 850 policemen, led by six deputy police officers (DSPs), were deployed outside the polling stations.

Out of 90 samples tested at the ICCBS labs on July 14, the Delta variant was detected in 83 of them. Health experts say that if the cases continue to increase, the death toll in the country is also likely to get higher. Health authorities say that owing to the Delta variant, the number of coronavirus cases in Karachi is rapidly increasing, so much so that hospitals are on the verge of reaching capacity.

Health experts say that if the cases continue to increase, the death toll in the country is also likely to get higher.Health authorities say that owing to the Delta variant, the number of coronavirus cases in Karachi is rapidly increasing, so much so that hospitals are on the verge of reaching capacity. Several hospitals in Karachi, including the Civil Hospital, had to postpone scheduled operations due to the growing number of coronavirus patients being admitted there, the report said, adding that at present, the COVID-19 positivity ratio in Karachi has reached 23 percent.

ISLAMABAD: With over 15,000 more cases of coronavirus being reported over the past one week, Pakistan has been ranked 30th among the countries having detected most number of cases since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic according to global ranking.
So far, the country has reported a little less than a million cases (i.e. 989,275) including 22,781 deaths, while India has reported the second highest number of cases (over 31 million) after the US where over 34m cases have been detected.
While observing that the Covid-19 situation is worsening in Pakistan with a resurge in cases, the Pakistan Medical Association in a statement noted that the worst of all was the presence of Delta variant in a number of cases and once again requested the masses to follow coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
