LAHORE: Polling for Azad Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly (AJKLA) seats in Punjab was held on Sunday mainly peacefully amid complaints of rigging and mismanagement. However, two political workers were injured in Gujrat while a candidate suffered an injury in Shorkot in minor clashes.
At least 25 polling stations had been set up in Lahore for two seats – LA-34 Jammu-I and LA-41 Valley-II. The numbers of total votes for the two seats was 9,131.
Stringent security arrangements had been made to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the voters and 850 policemen, led by six deputy police officers (DSPs), were deployed outside the polling stations.
GUJRAT: A total of 22 candidates have filed their nomination papers with the returning officer to contest the by-poll in PP-51 Wazirabad (Gujranwala district) out of which at least six are vying for the PML-N ticket.
Moreover, 16 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the by-poll in NA-75 Daska (Sialkot) that include two daughters of the late PML-N MNA Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah whose demise left the seat vacant.
Gujranwala Divisional Election Commissioner Majid Sharif Dogar, who is also the Gujranwala district returning officer, told Dawn that the lists of final candidates for both the by-polls had been displayed by the respective returning officers on Thursday.
