these days. it s tragic, you have a i hate to use pejoratives but a real dirt bag a gang banger with a violent history. he had not been convicted. most of his crimes committed allegedly when he was a juvenile. to do these seemingly random acts, these acts of hatred, this act of violence, hate, fatal violence, taking the life of the news men and we relate to the kid, 24 years old. they re part of our family. it really does tell the tale of the risk that comes with the territory. to have his life snuffed out, to have his camera man wounded and why did it happen? why was it that this 19-year-old, armed to the teeth with this glock, why did he kill the news kid? why did he attempt to kill his associate? go back a couple of hours.

morning in michigan with more on the shooting that has left that campus, that community yet one more campus, yet one more community grieving. cnn s adrienne broaddus and josh campbell join us. adrienne, like i said, you look at those pictures of those young people, three young lives snuffed out, their families are suffering, their friends are suffering, what more do we know about them? reporter: i think about those parents, parents who will now plan funerals instead of celebrations. i think about my friends who come back and return to campus, normally we come here to celebrate homecoming, but now we are focusing on the victims and recognizing their lives. behind me this is the sparty statue, it s at the center of campus and sparty is known as a symbol we heard from the aunt of one of the victims and we re talking about arielle anderson, she was among the killed. her aunt sharing these beautiful
context of mass shootings or senseless gun violence, the parent who is wake up one morning and their kid went off to school and now they re in the group together or they re going to capitol hill to fight with each other and never expected a parent from uvalde and a parent from colorado or highland park would be to working together, but they are. but for generations in this country, there have been black parents in every city, in rural communities, every community across this nation who have this experience where they woke up one morning or in the middle of the night to the news that their loved one, their son, their father, their cousin has had an encounter with police and their life has been snuffed out. and that randomness brings them together. and so, in a way, it s heartening to see these groups, these support groups form, but it s also incredibly disturbing as someone who s observed it time and time again. you know, you don t want them to have to find those groups.
