snowplows can traverse. that s how deep the snow is here, upwards to 2 feet right now. so those are off the roads. having said that, we actually don t have an exact number for how much snow has fallen here because the spotters that usually go out and figure that out during the or day actually could not because the conditions were so bad, and the snow drifts and the wind. so tomorrow morning when sun comes up, they will assess. but i can tell you being in these conditions since 5 a.m. this morning out here reporting live on fox weather and fox news and fox business, i think we re going to see about 2 feet of snow. but amazingly, jon, we have not lost power here, though there is spore rad aic power sporadic power outages all over massachusetts. but this historic town that s going to turn 400 years next year maintains their electricity tonight as people are hunkering down and hoping tomorrow brings a much easier day than that
they ve been doing that, i have to say, through the height of this blizzard that has hit atlantic city from the moment it started last night, out and trying to keep the streets plowed. for the most part, i think they ve done a really, really good job of it because some of the main drags have stayed plowed. now you have the situation where it s going to be the big dig. they have to dig walkways out. this atlantic bar and grill, you have a snow drift there that s partially snow that was plowed but also partially drift. people will have to navigate things like that in the days ahead. this did meet the criteria from the national weather service for a blizzard. that means at least three hours of winds that have reached 35 miles an hour or more, and visibility of a quarter mile or less. so that criteria has been reached. even though we are starting to see kind of the end of this thing here in atlantic city, you
but this is what they re contending with now. standing in the middle of a snow drift that s pretty big, partially caused by plowing, but also just the massive amounts of snow that came down and were blowing around with hurricane strength type winds that created drifts like this one. as i navigate out of this, i m going to show you this hour, we re going to pan to the right, show you some black top. this is the first black top we ve seen in about a day and a half here. it s really good news as people start to emerge out on the streets. i just talked to a city official saying they re going to start salting the streets right now. they were kind of brianinning t streets earlier. right now, they re starting to put pure assasalt on the street because they are not quite out of the woods as far as treacherous conditions. we re going to pan over here as i kind of work my way through the snow drift. we re going to go down pacific
5-foot-tall snow drift. i m going to try to navigate over it. it was not made by plowing. it s made by snow flying and accumulating here. i got to the side of it. i ll try to get back to the other side. this is a natural buildup of snow blocking a driveway into a hotel here. this is south carolina avenue. visibility here as you can see is almost nothing, and this is what we re told by city officials is especially dangerous now in addition to the surface hazards on the roads. this has just been plowed. but we are getting word from the city officials that people are venturing out and getting stuck this morning. they re imploring people door not do that. as you can see, it s hard for me to stand out here and walk. you know, even my speech is affected when i get hit with a snow burst at certain times. another update i can give you is we go down this way on south
