Ray Charles Anderson April 15, 2021 Mr. Ray Charles “Curly” Anderson, 55, of Watertown passed away on April 13, 2021.  He was born in Murfreesboro, TN on January 8, 1966.  Preceding him in death were his father, Howard Anderson, and brothers, Steve and Paul Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Gabriele Anderson of Watertown; sons, Justin (Heather Franklin) Anderson of Lebanon and Josh Anderson of Savannah, GA; daughter, Stephanie (George) O’Donnell of LaVergne; brothers, Alvin Johnson and Howard Anderson, Jr., Eddie, Tommy, Tony, Christopher, Jeffery, and Michael Anderson; sister, Donna Folk; grandchildren, Gracie Brand, Kenzie Brand, Allie Jones, and Tanner O’Donnell; and tons of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Pauline Ely, 82, inducted into the Virginia Peninsula Road Racing Hall of Fame

Pauline Ely HAMPTON Pauline Ely, 82, went to the great running road race in the sky on March 3, 2021. She was born Oct. 25, 1938, in Hampton to Neil George Bailey and Ruth Thompson Bailey, the third of four children. Pauline was preceded in death by her sister, Jean; and brother, Walter. Pauline was and is “Always a Crabber,” having graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1958, and was a member of the National Honor Society. Locals will remember her as the face behind the counter at Hampton Hobby House, which she owned along with her husband, Marty Leiss. Although they divorced, they continued to be friends and business partners until Marty’s death in November 1995. The store closed in 2000.

Titanic survivor s daughter remembered as loving mum

A WOMAN whose mother survived the sinking of the R.M.S. Titantic was laid to rest on Saturday. Mrs. Mary Kate McHugh (née McGovern), 96, was well-known across the whole of the island of Ireland due to her mother, the late Mary McGovern, being a survivor of the infamous doomed ship. Mary Kate spent some time recently in Fermanagh with her daughter, Mary, and son-in law, Francie Rogers, in Tempo. Mary Kate was born on September 12, 1925 in Tullytransa, Corlough, Co. Cavan to Peter and Mary McGovern, and had one brother, Hugh, who predeceased her in 1983. Mary Kate took great pride in her mother’s role in history. Mary Kate’s daughter, Mary, said: “She was very proud of her mother for being a survivor of the Titanic.”

Jess Peck Miller II HAMPTON Dr. Jess Peck Miller II, 88, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, among family at his home. He was born in North Carolina in 1932, and was raised with his three brothers in Staunton, Virginia, and Wilmington, Delaware. He graduated from the College of William & Mary and earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia, where he lived on the Range. He finished his medical training at University Hospital in Cleveland, where he met and married a beautiful and warm-hearted nurse named Patricia Namy. After two years of Navy service as the medical officer on a submarine, he and Pat moved the family to Hampton in 1964 where they have lived ever since. Together they raised seven children.
