Governor general awards Grand Bahamians for selfless service

(BIS PHOTO/LISA DAVIS) FREEPORT, BAHAMAS The Governor General’s Volunteer Bahamas Program was officially launched on Grand Bahama on Friday by Governor General C A Smith in a ceremony that honored some 13 individuals and organizations. Those honored included Calvin Martin, Dwayne Stuart, Jude Grant, Grand Bahama Lakers baseball team, Butler and Sands Blue Jays, D’Sean Smith, Jensen Burrows, Jason Albury, the Rotary Clubs on the island, Pastor Darren Rolle, Dudley Seide, Stephanie Burrows and Lindy Russell.

Early voting begins statewide for Jan 5 runoffs, four

Early voting begins at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14 for the hotly-contested Jan. 5 runoff elections between GOP incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler and Democrat Raphael Warnock and GOP incumbent Senator David Perdue and his Democratic challenger John Ossoff. Both the Republicans and the Democrats have poured millions of dollars into advertising for the races, since the outcome will determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Because the advance voting period falls during the holidays, voters won t have quite as many days to cast early ballots. Polls will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year s Day. In most counties, including Hall County, there is no Saturday early voting opportunity.

Early voting for runoffs starts Dec 14

Polling places will include several precautions to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Poll workers will wear masks, and machines will be sanitized between voters. Glass dividers will also be installed where voters check in with poll workers.
