Lehigh County bowling alley shutters after 6 decades, citing COVID pandemic

Another popular bowling alley once known for its excitement of strikes and spares is ready to dim the lights.
Slatington Bowling Center, 8123 Route 873 in Washington Township, Lehigh County, planned to open for one last day on Wednesday, according to a Facebook from Monday. The post reminded employees to remove all personal items from lockers.
Owner Bill Reese initially took to Facebook in January to share the news of the alley’s pending closure with patrons. The 16-lane bowling alley, in existence since the 1960s, was forced to close for about five months during the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

Warren Lanes, 671 Memorial Parkway, shut its doors in March amid the coronavirus pandemic and never reopened. Reese Bowling Centers is expected to take over the lease later this month.

Strikes and spares turned to silence when Warren Lanes failed to reopen after the March shutdown at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The popular bowling alley, 671 Memorial Parkway in Phillipsburg, closed this past March when New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy ordered the closure of non-essential businesses. The shutdown was lifted on June 9 with restrictions, including maximum-capacity guidelines.
