The nonprofit group Main Street Skowhegan recently received a $25,000 state grant and organizers say work could begin next summer on installing an adjustable whitewater wave for paddling and river surfing.
The press conference was followed by a mill tour offering a look inside the milling, packing and order fulfillment process. The mill tour provides a glimpse into the Maine Grains production process from milling to packing.
The business is currently operating out of the Miller's Table Restaurant at the Grist Mill on Court Street, but owner Heather Kerner has her sights on future expansion in downtown Skowhegan.
The goal is to provide housing, a space for the farmers market in the winter and to invite entrepreneurs to try out their businesses in a new building adjacent to the gristmill.
