Williams of Oneida was walking in the middle of the road when he was hit by a driver heading southeast between Tudman and Moore roads around 6 a.m Wednesday morning. Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol said the driver, Tamara Danyew, of Vernon, was not able to see Williams walking because there are no streetlights in the area, and he was wearing all black. Danyew tried to brake when she saw Williams but was unable to stop in time, according to Maciol.

Damien D. Williams was walking in the middle of the lane with his back to traffic when he was struck by Tamara Danyew of Vernon, who was driving to work around 6 a.m. on Skinner Road, between Moore and Tudman roads, deputies previously reported. Williams was dressed in all black and Danyew only saw him at the last second. While she tried to stop, she was unable to avoid him, deputies said.
