A famous Irish Famine letter that had a huge impact on the Great Hunger has returned to Skibbereen, one of the worst-hit areas in Ireland during the crisis.
The letter was once owned by the family of Hollywood actress Rita Hayworth and was written in December 1846 by Cork magistrate Nicholas Cummings.
A total of 45,500 burial records from around Cork are now available online along with video guides and graveyard signs. These new online records are invaluable for those in search of their ancestors in Cork and their family history.
Remember and honor important moments in Irish history by visiting the Skibbereen Heritage Centre in West Cork. The centre has two primary exhibitions – one on the Great Famine, the second on Lough Hyne.
